We’re glad you’re here! Legacy is a unique kind of church. It’s not a program or a place, but people — people who all share a couple of life-altering beliefs. *We believe that what has happened in the past is less important than what God has for you in the future through a relationship with Jesus. *Every person has a legacy when they follow Jesus — something given to us by God to bless our lives and the lives of those around us. For us, that legacy is the love we experience through Jesus.
What makes a legacy interesting and unique is this: the more of it you give away, the more of it you have. You could even say that a legacy isn’t yours until you give it away. We are happy to give our legacy, the Legacy, to you. We desire nothing more than to see your life be blessed and to help you find and give your legacy away to others.
We do things a little bit different than you might expect from a church. How different? We’d love for you to come and find out!
Legacy Church began as a bible study in the apartment of Pete and SueJae Bertolero in 1979. The group outgrew their little apartment as people's lives were changed by the love and message of Jesus. In 1981 the bible study officially became a church called The Fresno Christian Growth Center with Pastor Pete and Suejae as its founding Pastors. The church continued to grow and would move many times over the years to make room for that growth. In 2006 the name was changed to The Legacy Christian Church to better reflect the work God was doing in his people. That same year the church made the transition from being nomadic (moving from building to building), to being mobile and meeting at Ahwahnee Middle School in Fresno. Pastor Pete and SueJae Retired in 2017 and passed the leadership of Legacy to Pastor Andy and Sondra White. On Easter Sunday, April 1st, 2018 Legacy held its last service as a mobile church and moved into the current location at Shaw and Villa in Clovis.
We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.
There is only one God and He is the Creator of all things. He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is perfectly loving, perfectly just, and completely holy. He is bigger, better and closer than we can imagine.
Jesus is God's only Son whom God sent to earth to save us from our sins because of His great love. Jesus is the only way to salvation and the only one who can reconcile us to God. He is the second person of the Trinity and co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
God lives and works in us now through His Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who sanctifies and empowers believers to be like Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a person, not an impersonal force. He is the third person of the Trinity and co-equal with God the Father and God the Son.
The Bible is God’s Word given to the prophets through the Holy Spirit. It is complete, God-breathed, infallible and applicable to our everyday lives.
Grace is the undeserved, unearned favor of God by which a personal relationship is realized and enjoyed through Christ.
Faith is trusting in Christ alone for salvation from sin. It is trusting and believing what the Bible says is true. It is only by faith in God through Christ Jesus that we can enjoy a relationship with Him.
Salvation comes by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, it means that your sins are forgiven, you are saved from hell, and delivered from the bondage of sin here on earth.
Heaven and Hell are very real places. When our lives here on earth are over, it is not the end but only the beginning—The beginning of an eternity spent in one or the other based on your relationship with Jesus.
Evil takes 3 forms: Evil is personal—it comes from within us and our sinful or fleshly desires. Evil is social—it comes from the fallen world around us. Evil is supernatural— coming from Satan and his demons.
We believe that the church is not a place or a program, but a people. The purpose of the church is to love God, love people, and to lead others to do the same.
History will come to an end when Jesus returns. Since we do not know when that time will be and the Bible tells us certain signs will happen before that time comes, it is the duty of every believer to watch, prepare and endure all things until that day.
